Eye Bloom - Rhino Model 1

 I chose to map out my Eye Bloom design in Rhino. I decided to design a flower pot holder as a form of storage when the flower coaster is not in use. In my sketches I added a stem stand to go with the coaster but later removed this in the rendering in Rhino. I thought it might be too unstable and unconventional for a coaster. I considered combating this by changing the height and thickness of the stem but having it short and thick might make it look less like a stem, another reason as to why I decided to scrap that feature. As for materials, I am considering the white and red acrylic of the flower or wood for the different degrees of darkness when engraving the details. As for the pot, Im not entirely sure how to go about making it. Maybe a 3D print or layers of laser cut wood. I've also considered the use of magnets as a way to connect the flower and coaster together so that the flower is not sitting too loosely in the coaster. I would need small and strong magnets to achieve that...

Castle - Final

Like I mentioned in my previous blog post, I wanted to create a classic dark and evil themed castle. One that looked and felt like a cliche evil villain would call it home. I chose a more monochromatic color scheme to sell the dark and mysterious vibe I wanted but after the first pass I realized the black and greys were a little too monochromatic and felt flat. To combat this, I changed the material of the points on the pillars to metal to make them contrast with the matte plastic material of the rest of the castle. This helped make them more readable and not blend in with the rest of the structures. I also incorporated red diamonds to add a needed pop of color and make it look more sinister. Some of the other challenges I faced when working on this project were what to do with the environment. I knew wanted it to fit the dark and evil theme but was not sure on how to go about it. Eyebloom - Process

 For my coaster I wanted to go for a more unique design and imagery that wasn't just a simple circle or square. For this reason I chose my "Eyebloom" design from my sketches. Making the actual design in Rhino was the easiest part in my opinion. The shapes were fairly simple and most of the shapes in the design were symmetrical on both sides, meaning I could make one shape and mirror it on the other side. This made the process of drawing the coaster in Rhino really easy and simple. The most difficult part was preparing the files and actually laser cutting the design. I chose to use the TroLase acrylic for the two colours. When I went to the laser cutting appointment, I did a first pass with some burgundy acrylic they had in the scrap pile as a test, and it was then where I ran into some issues.
