Castle - Final

Like I mentioned in my previous blog post, I wanted to create a classic dark and evil themed castle. One that looked and felt like a cliche evil villain would call it home. I chose a more monochromatic color scheme to sell the dark and mysterious vibe I wanted but after the first pass I realized the black and greys were a little too monochromatic and felt flat. To combat this, I changed the material of the points on the pillars to metal to make them contrast with the matte plastic material of the rest of the castle. This helped make them more readable and not blend in with the rest of the structures. I also incorporated red diamonds to add a needed pop of color and make it look more sinister. Some of the other challenges I faced when working on this project were what to do with the environment. I knew wanted it to fit the dark and evil theme but was not sure on how to go about it. During the critique, some suggested a forest. I took this into consideration and made dark trees to surround the castle. Someone also suggested adding a pathway that led to the opening of the castle, so I added that too. There were some difficulties when making the trees. I'm not an expert when using Rhino so I ended up making a bunch of different sized cylinders and putting them together to look like branches. There is probably a better and easier way to do this, but this was the best method I could think of with my low skill level and knowledge about Rhino. Overall, I am decently satisfied with how the final turned out especially with the red lighting in the final renders. This was a fun project to do, and I learned a lot about Rhino and 3D modelling, hopefully I can apply what I learned into future projects and make them even better.
